Diversity and inclusion is important at Shaw and we believe our business growth and strength is dependent on it.

At Shaw we strive for diversity and inclusion among our associates as well as our supplier base.  We define Supplier Diversity as proactively providing equal access to Shaw’s purchasing opportunities to all qualified suppliers. We want to promote supplier participation that is reflective of Shaw's diverse customer base and local community. We believe having a strong Supplier Diversity Program is strategic for bringing more innovation to our business and opening new markets for growth.

Shaw’s Global Sourcing team is responsible for tracking diverse spend categories that are captured when a supplier is registered, onboarded or during maintenance of the supplier record.  Diverse spend is reported on a quarterly basis both internally and externally to our customers and the federal government. 

Currently, Shaw recognizes a diverse business as:

• Small, as defined by the SBA (Small Business Administration)
  • Size standards vary by industry NAICS Code and can depend on revenues or number of employees
• U.S. businesses with 51%+ owned and controlled by a:
  • Woman
  • Veteran/Service-Disabled Veteran
  • Minority
    • African American, Hispanic American, Asian American, Native American
  • LGBT - Lesbian, Gay, Bi-Sexual, Transgender
• Eligible for additional government classifications:
  • HUBZone (Businesses located in Historically Underutilized Business Zones)
  • Small Disadvantaged Businesses (also defined as small, minority owned businesses) 

With the exception of HUBZone business, Shaw allows all suppliers to self-certify their diversity status.  We do not require third party certifications.

How do you know if your business is small?

1. You can use the SBA size standards tool. This requires you to know your NAICS Code. Please note that your NAICS Code is self assigned and not unique to each company. Each NAICS Code has either an average annual revenue or employee count that will determine whether your business is small or large.
2. You must also be independently owned. Public companies and subsidiaries of larger organizations are not eligible for small business status.

How do you know if your business qualifies as a HUBZone?

1. You must be a small business (see above).
2. 51%+ of your ownership must be by a U.S. Citizen.
3. Your principal office AND 35% of your employees must live in a HUBZone, which can be verified by using the SBA HUBZone map website.
4. If your business qualifies, please follow the guidelines for certification on the SBA’s HUBZone website.

Shaw’s Supplier Diversity Program includes:

1. Formation of a Corporate Council for Diversity & Inclusion Sub-Team focused on growing supplier diversity, partnering with Associate Resource Groups (ARGs)
2. Partnership with local and national diverse trade associations
3. Participation & presentations at diversity networking events
4. Performance goals set around increasing spend with diverse suppliers

Shaw’s sustainable sourcing vision is to create transparent and collaborative supplier partnerships resulting in a better future for our customers, suppliers, associates and the global community.  It is our policy to do business in a legal, ethical and sustainable manner.  Suppliers who do not act accordingly will not do business with Shaw.

Sustainable Sourcing Policy

1. Any supplier doing business with Shaw must adhere to our Sustainable Sourcing Policy. The three pillars of the policy are:
   1. All suppliers must abide by the 10 principles of the UN Global Compact.
   2. All suppliers must conduct their business within the scope of US Economic Sanctions.
   3. All suppliers of raw materials and sourced products must comply with Shaw’s material disclosure requirements.

Chemical Policy
This policy ensures that our longstanding chemical management requirements and expectations are clearly and consistently communicated to all interested parties, including the suppliers of the materials and chemicals used to make the products we sell globally across our brands, including sourced finished goods.  Adherence to this policy will help Shaw make informed product choices.

Cradle to Cradle
We are committed to practicing sustainable sourcing policies to create a better future. Almost 90% of the products we manufacture are Cradle to Cradle Certified®. By 2030, we aim to have 100% of products optimized to Cradle to Cradle principles; success is dependent on full supplier cooperation. And no matter where or by whom a product or ingredient is manufactured, they’re held to the same standards. For more information, please read the Sustainable Sourcing Policy.

UN Global Compact
The United Nations Global Compact is the world’s largest volunteer sustainability initiative. It consists of ten principles to guide company conduct and encompasses topics such as human rights, labor, anti corruption, and environment. Shaw is a proud signatory of the Global Compact, and we will publish our improvements annually in a Communication on Progress within our Sustainability Report. ​​Ensuring the safety of our products and the associates and customers who handle them is our main priority.  Shaw’s packaging guidelines are for sourced product suppliers of finished goods. Learn more in our pallet and packaging requirements.

Shaw is firmly committed to the legal trade of wood products and asserts that commitment in our Responsible Wood Procurement Policy. As such, we expect the same commitment from our suppliers. We will not knowingly purchase or use wood, wood fiber or products for distribution that originate from illegal logging.

For this reason, Shaw Industries Group, Inc. invites stakeholders to contact the Program Administrator at gs.compliance@shawinc.com to issue a formal complaint if it they believe that we are not adhering to this policy.

Shaw Industries Group, Inc. is committed to the responsible sourcing and reporting of conflict minerals throughout our supply chain. To advance supply chain transparency and comply with legal requirements, we contact all of our associated suppliers and verify that materials sourced are in compliance with the Dodd-Frank Wall Street Reform and Consumer Protection Act of 2010.  We expect the complete cooperation and responsiveness from each of our suppliers.

Shaw commits to conduct our business in an ethical and responsible manner that supports and respects the protection of human rights.  Shaw will work to identify and do business with partners who aspire to conduct their business in a similar manner. Shaw is committed to sourcing its products from suppliers who have agreed to operate their supply chains in a socially responsible manner, as required in our Sustainable Sourcing Policy and proven by our commitment to the UN Global Compact. Specifically, Shaw condemns the use of child labor, forced labor and human trafficking.

To this end, Shaw:

• Verifies product supply chains to evaluate and address risks of human trafficking and slavery.
• Performs geographical risk assessments of our finished product and raw material suppliers. The risk assessments are conducted using both internal and external tools.
• Reserves the right to audit suppliers to evaluate supplier compliance with Shaw’s trafficking and slavery in supply chains. Shaw has developed standards for supplier behavior and has developed a Sustainable Sourcing Policy as a basis for audits.
• Obtains certification from suppliers that materials in our supply chain comply with laws regarding slavery and human trafficking of the country or countries in which they are doing business. Shaw contractually requires suppliers to comply with the laws of the countries in which they do business, including laws against child labor, slavery and human trafficking, and unsafe working conditions.
• Implements internal accountability standards and procedures for employees, contractors and suppliers who fail to meet our policies regarding slavery and trafficking. Shaw has internal accountability standards for its employees and has developed a Sustainable Sourcing Policy for our suppliers.
• Regularly conducts training to our supply chain associates on issues of human trafficking and slavery, particularly with respect to mitigating risks within the supply chains of products.
