Shaw Industries Group, Inc. (Shaw) has achieved the USGBC’s LEED Silver designation for Plant 72, an administrative building on the corporate campus, and for the Shaw Family Health Center, both located in Dalton, Ga.
Recognized globally as the premier mark of achievement in green building, LEED certification requires that building projects meet specific thresholds to achieve different levels (Certified, Silver, Gold and Platinum). Points are accrued in five green design categories: sustainable sites, water efficiency, energy and atmosphere, materials and resources and indoor environmental quality.

“These LEED certifications are a testament to Shaw’s holistic approach to sustainability. We are focused on designing and operating our facilities to minimize environmental impact and maintain ongoing comfort and efficiency,” said Paul Murray, vice president of sustainability and environmental affairs at Shaw.

Receiving recognition under the LEED O+M Existing Building category, Plant 72 is approximately 152,000-square-foot office building located on the company’s headquarters campus. Housing numerous corporate functions, the property is Shaw’s largest office building. The approximately 10,000-square-foot Shaw Family Health Center received certification in the LEED BD+C New Construction category and is a full service medical clinic for Shaw associates and their families.

These facilities join Shaw’s existing portfolio of LEED certified buildings including Plant 95 and Re2E also in Dalton; a carpet tile manufacturing facility in Nantong, China; a Shaw Contract Group sales office in Shanghai, China; and Patcraft’s Chicago showroom. Also, earlier this year, Shaw Contract Group’s new London showroom, Hub 33, achieved Silver certification from Ska Rating, an environmental assessment tool for sustainable fit-outs within the U.K., adding to Shaw’s green building achievements.
