Shaw Industries Receives Legacy Leader Award from Cradle to Cradle Products Innovation Institute

December 12, 2013 - Susan Sarandon, Rosario Dawson, Chuck Leavell, and Thomas Roberts help honor award recipients.

Shaw Industries

Shaw Industries Group, Inc. (Shaw) received a Legacy Leader Award from the Cradle to Cradle Products Innovation Institute at the Institute’s inaugural Innovation Celebration. The award recognizes Shaw’s pioneering leadership in sustainable flooring design.

Shaw became the world’s first flooring manufacturer to have its products Cradle to Cradle Certified – and one of the first companies in any category to do so. Today, more than 60 percent of Shaw’s $4.5 billion in annual sales is from Cradle to Cradle certified products, and the company has made a commitment for 100 percent of its products to be designed to Cradle to Cradle protocols by 2030.

“At Shaw, we are committed to creating a better future for our associates, our customers and our communities,” said Shaw CEO Vance Bell, who was on hand to accept the award. “Cradle to Cradle helps us fulfill this commitment through its focus on safe materials, water, energy, materials reutilization, and social fairness. We’re honored to be recognized by the Institute for our efforts.”

“We all dream of a healthier, safer world for our children,” Cradle to Cradle Products Innovation Institute Co-founder William McDonough noted at the event.

Other award winners include: Aveda, Bella Dura, IceStone, Method, and Herman Miller, who also received a Legacy Leader Award; Legacy Leader CEO Award winners James Hackett of Steelcase, and Susan Lyons of Designtex; and New Innovator Award winner PUMA for its Incycle Collection.

Actresses Susan Sarandon and Rosario Dawson; Rolling Stones keyboardist and co- founder of Mother Nature Network, Chuck Leavell; and MSNBC’s Thomas Roberts attended the event – highlighting the importance of the Institute’s work and to help honor award recipients.
