The Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve (ESGR) recently recognized Shaw with the Seven Seals award and the Pro Patria award, which is the highest award given at the state level. Both awards recognize Shaw’s significant support of associates in the National Guard and Reserve.

The leadership skills and technical expertise that veterans bring to our workforce are directly translatable, highly valued and help support a workforce that includes diversity of background and thought” said Chester Chaffin who spearheads ShawVET. “We are proud that Shaw’s commitment to those associates who also serve in the armed forces has been recognized by the Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve.”

The Pro Patria Award is presented annually by each ESGR State Committee to employers that have demonstrated the greatest support to Guard and Reserve employees through their leadership and practices, including adopting personnel policies that make it easier for employees to participate in the National Guard and Reserve.
The Seven Seals Award is the broadest award given by ESGR and is presented at the discretion of the State Chair or by ESGR senior leadership. The Seven Seals Award is presented in recognition of significant individual or organizational achievement, initiative, or support that promotes and supports the ESGR mission, to include the efforts of the more than 4,500 volunteers who carry out ESGR’s mission across the Nation on a daily basis.
The team at Shaw works closely with associates who are in the Guard and Reserve to ensure that they are able to meet their commitments to the service of our nation. As a community, Shaw associates have provided a support network for their coworkers that have been deployed by sending cards, emails and letters as well as care packages and gift cards.

ShawVET, the company’s employee resource group for veterans, is dedicated to “serving those who have served.” ShawVET works closely with National Guard and Reserve Units in our communities to support back to school drives, holiday celebrations and the annual National Guard Ball. Shaw also installed new carpet at the Navy Operational Support Center and Marine Corps Reserve Center in Chattanooga.

About ESGR

ESGR, a Department of Defense program, was established in 1972 to promote cooperation and understanding between Reserve Component Service members and their civilian employers and to assist in the resolution of conflicts arising from an employee's military commitment. ESGR is supported by a network of more than 4,500 volunteers in 54 committees located across all 50 states, the District of Columbia, Guam-CNMI (Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands), Puerto Rico, and the U.S. Virgin Islands. Volunteers, hailing from small business and industry, government, education, and prior military service bring a vast wealth of experience to assist in serving employers, Service members, and their families. Together with Headquarters ESGR staff and a small cadre of support staff for each State Committee, volunteers work to promote and enhance employer support for military service in the Guard and Reserve
