September 30, 2016 - Home offers unprecedented time-travel look ahead to the years 2020 and 2050.

Shaw Industries

Shaw Floors announces its Life Happens with LifeGuard® carpet, Floorté® enhanced vinyl plank, and TuftexTM area rugs along with turf tile from Shaw Contract’s The Park collection will be showcased in the Greenbuild® KB Home ProjeKt™ demonstration home at the 2016 Greenbuild International Conference and Expo in Los Angeles, and will be available for in-person discovery tours for conference attendees on Wednesday, October 5 and Thursday, October 6.  The home will also be available nationwide via the online virtual tour beginning October 5.

The Greenbuild KB Home ProjeKt, presented by Hanley Wood in partnership with KB Home (NYSE:KBH), BUILDER Magazine, KTGY Architecture + Planning, and the Cradle to Cradle Products Innovation Institute and Virginia Tech, is designed to serve as an unprecedented time-travel look ahead to the years 2020 and 2050 as a way to bring new perspective and strategic scenario-planning opportunities to builders and consumers alike.  The display at the 2016 Greenbuild Conference and Expo will boast vignettes that feature assemblies and systems, home tours, interactive educational features and a digital wall display.

The home is designed to be sustainable, resilient, and achieve LEED and National Green Building Standard (NGBS) certifications for energy efficiency today, net-zero energy per California’s 2020 goals, and features super materials and innovations for 2050.  Composed of cartridges for modularity and movable walls, the home is flexible and able to adapt and change in real-time and over time to conditions and people’s needs.  Wellness, safety and health features can be found throughout the home -- from cooking equipment which prevents nutrient loss during food preparation to lighting optimized for circadian rhythms.  Technology also plays a key role in the home, featuring automation systems to achieve the ultimate smart home with unprecedented levels of convenience, efficiency, awareness and wellness.

Shaw’s holistic approach to sustainability and its commitment to the Cradle to Cradle® design philosophy ensure its products and its manufacturing processes focus on material health, material reutilization, renewable energy, water stewardship and social fairness. Sixty-five (65) percent of Shaw manufactured products sold are Cradle to Cradle CertifiedTM.

Displaying a combination of soft and hard surface flooring options, the Greenbuild KB Home ProjeKt demonstrates the range of products available to today’s consumers. Shaw’s products are designed to be as sustainable, innovative and durable as they are beautiful.

Tough enough to stand up to anything today’s hectic lifestyles bring, the Life Happens carpet collection showcased in the home features Shaw’s patented LifeGuard waterproof backing system -- providing an extraordinary level of protection. This Cradle to Cradle CertifiedTM Silver carpet is made to handle it all: pets, kids…life. The LifeGuard® revolutionary carpet protection system covers the entire product, from face fiber to backing. Each beautiful carpet in the LifeGuard collection is treated with Shaw’s patented R2X® stain and soil resistance protection, the standard of excellence in the industry, while a patented thermoplastic commercial-grade backing provides a waterproof moisture barrier that prevents liquids from soaking into the carpet padding and subfloor.

Similarly, Floorté flooring provides a durable, easy-to-install floor. This enhanced vinyl plank features Shaw Floors’ LifeGuard waterproof core, providing a significant breakthrough in flooring protection technology. Floorté flooring uses high-definition printing to create a beautiful, authentic hardwood or tile look in all of today’s popular colors and styles. Its FOLD N GO™ locking system is precision-engineered for simple installation on or below ground level. Floorté floors are also strong, durable, flexible—concealing imperfections on the subfloor — and waterproof. The waterproof qualities of Floorté floors make it ideal for high-moisture areas like basements, bathrooms, and mudrooms. Additionally, Floorté floors are Floor Score® certified. Developed by the Resilient Floor Covering Institute (RFCI), this certification ensures that Floorté meets important indoor air quality emission requirements.
