It's what we do.

It’s not what you say, it’s what you do…and how you do it. We take this very much to heart every day in making sure Shaw operations are running safely, smoothly and sustainably.

  • Ensuring Shaw's operations are running safely, smoothly, and sustainably.
  • Powered by progress.

Climate Change and GHGs

Climate change is a complex, global issue that requires a global response. No one person, organization or corporation can solve it alone. Collective action has a cumulative positive effect.

We're proud to have reduced our greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions -- Scope 1 and Scope 2 -- by more than 50% compared to 2010. Our goal: achieve net zero enterprise operations by 2030.

Shaw’s strategy is to first reduce our energy consumption, then switch to cleaner fuels; to produce renewable energy at our own facilities; and to incentivize additional renewable energy development and usage through the purchase of renewable energy credits.

We have achieved carbon neutrality in our commercial carpet operations worldwide since 2018, including those for Patcraft, Philadelphia Commercial, Shaw Contract and STS. Powered by progress, Shaw is committed to sustaining human ability through our focus on climate change and GHGs.

Supply Chain Management

Shaw manufactures many of our own products and ingredient materials, employing efficient use of materials and natural resources, using alternative and renewable energy sources when possible, and designing and operating our facilities and manufacturing processes in accordance with widely recognized sustainability and safety standards.

We also rely upon strategic supplier partnerships to ensure we can offer our customers an expansive portfolio of products. We work with trusted partners to fulfill a variety of business operations from temporary staffing to machine parts. These 4,300-plus suppliers are critical to our operations and serve as an extension of our sustainability strategy so we expect these suppliers to maintain the same high standards that we set for ourselves. Shaw verifies that our products, regardless of where or by whom they are manufactured, meet stringent guidelines and our customers’ expectations so we can minimize our impact on the planet and maximize human potential.

Shaw is a signatory to the UN Global Compact,a widely recognized set of principles focused on upholding and protecting human rights, labor, environment and anti-corruption standards.Shaw has implemented the Ten Principles of the UN Global Compact throughout our supply chain via a sustainable sourcing policy and related terms and conditions for all suppliers.
  • Less is more.

Waste

As a manufacturer, we love making things. Especially a second life for materials that would traditionally be discarded as waste.

Shaw has done just that by continually finding viable uses for a wider variety of single-use plastic bottles. First, turning clear plastic bottles into carpet fiber. Then, incorporating those harder-to-use green plastic bottles into our Ecologix backing.

Most recently, we enhanced our efforts to turn plastic bottles into flooring in two key ways. We found new outlets for recycled plastic bottles with our newly unveiled PET resilient flooring that will be available from Shaw Contract and Patcraft. And we took a step forward in our ability to process lower-value plastic. As we invested $250 million in our Andalusia, Ala. facility, we expanded upon innovative technology used in other Shaw facilities to be able to process more recycled PET and to use a broader range of clear plastic bottles while maintaining the quality of the final product.

These efforts result in Shaw using more than 2.5 billion recycled plastic bottles per year in its products -- since 2009.

Beyond plastic bottles,we consistently categorize, measure and channel waste toward the best possible use, whether repurposed within our own manufacturing processes, or used by other industries. Detailed insights help identify opportunities for improvement—allowing us to reduce our waste by millions of pounds.
  • Conserving water,
    preserving life.

Water

Water is an essential substance of life. Yet more than 2 billion people lack access to safe drinking water, and water scarcity already affects four out of every 10 people around the world.

Water conservation is a universal issue that Shaw prioritizes in our manufacturing processes, especially considering that many of our facilities operate where local water scarcity is not a future threat, but a current reality. Not only have we instituted systems that reuse water whenever possible and improved our facilities to save more and use less, but Shaw is focused on identifying new technologies and innovative solutions to further reduce water use within our operations. We’ve also partnered with organizations that work to safeguard water resources and engage people in the conservation conversation.

We’re proud to have reduced our use of water by more than 40% (per pound of completed product compared to 2010). When it comes to conserving water and preserving life, every drop counts.

Our approach to our facilities reflects the company’s overall commitment to sustainability. Throughout our wide range of building types, from manufacturing facilities to administrative and sales offices to showrooms and recycling centers, we take engage economically responsible, environmentally smart approaches to reducing the energy, water, carbon and waste impacts of our buildings.

Through our products, our operations and our facilities, we’re committed to creating a better future.
